| System Description: | Kongskilde trim conveying system |
| Product for handling: | Plastic film |
Process Description:
ICI Films production process involves extruded plastic film being cut to suit customers specifications and then wound onto rollers. A portion of the film has to be trimmed from each side of the sheet and removed.
Problem:
Workers were forced to cart the hefty rolls of waste trim to another area in the plant where it was re-extruded and made into plastic granuals before being re-introduced into the production cycle. ICI were extremely dissatisfied with the situation as it posed a continual threat on workers safety.
Pneuvays Solution:
Pneuvay Engineering installed a Kongskilde trim conveying system. Suction nozzles were positioned at the rollers and the trim is now vacuumed away as it is slit from the main sheet of plastic film. The trim passes through a Kongskilde Multicutter which shreds into smaller, more manageable pieces. It then enters the previously existent process where it is made into granuals and stored in a silo. A percentage of each production run is made from this regrind.
Special Features:
By using a series of diverter valves, Pneuvay Engineering designed the Kongskilde system to be extremely flexible. It now allows the trimming from the two separate slitters to be directed to either one of the two silos. To eliminate any possiblity of human error causing the wrong material to enter the wrong silo, the electronics ensure that all trim will be diverted to a bulk bag and treated as waste if directions in two separate control panels are in confliction.
